Here’s a handy little trick that I stumbled upon yesterday while working on my new WordPress blog. I was trying desperately to figure out how to change my main menu so that it would show different categories instead of stand-alone pages. The reason being is that, on WordPress, when you create a new page, the different blog posts relating to that page don’t automatically go to that page. Enter, my new handy-dandy method. 🙂
I found this info while watching several YouTube videos, after browsing the web forums for hours with no luck. Okay, so here it is. The big, yet easy, secret.
- Go to yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/ So, for example, to do this I went to littlemisscoffee.com/wp-admin/ I was already signed in, but if you aren’t, you’ll sign in here.
- On the left side of the page, click on Appearance.
- Under Appearance, click on Menus.
- Now you’ll see things like Pages, Custom Links, etc. Be sure to uncheck all Pages, and then click on Categories.
- Now check all of the categories that you want shown. *Be sure all of your categories are added before doing this to make it easier. Otherwise, when adding a category later, you will need to do this process all over again.*
If you aren’t sure how to connect your blog posts to categories, simply go to a blog post in your editor, click on settings, and you’ll see a category space.
If you have any questions, please feel free to comment below and I’ll answer them to the best of my knowledge.

Thank you so much for sharing this! Very useful information 😊

Then how to add your previous work to the pages on the menu or is it automatic?

If you’ve already categorized them then it should be quick. Otherwise you’ll need to edit each post by putting it into a category
